Dr. Katz discussed solutions for ending the diabetes and obesity epidemics, including action steps for schools, physicians, government, communities, and individuals and families. In addition, Dr. Katz discussed two new initiatives - Nutrition Detectives, an exciting nutrition education program for elementary school children that is “Teaching Kids to Make Healthy Choices”, and Nuval, a nutritional scoring system, that helps consumers see – at a glance – the nutritional value of the food they buy.
Dr. Katz is Associate Professor in Public Health Practice at the Yale University School of Medicine and Director and founder of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center.
